Default 1986 yamaha 115 dies at rpm above 3500

i took my boat out memorial day weekend for the first time in almost 2 years.i had trouble getting it started befor i took it out. it wasn't getting any gas to the fuel pump.i removed the bulb and hose, and replaced it.the motor started and ran good.when i got on the lake and ran the motor it ranvery good at low rpm's 3500 and less, but when i pushed it beyond 3500 rpm's for about 1 minute it would die completely and pulling back on the throttle wouldnt keep it running.the motor would start back and run fine immediately after stopping.i get no warning inicators like the oillight or anything. could it be a fuel problem ?i dont live near a lake to test the motor, can i run the motor at high rpm's with a hose atachment ?any help would begreatly appreciated, thanks.

Do you have an internal tank? Did you change the fuel? Could be fuel starvation at high rpm's. If you do have an internal tank, try hooking up to a 6 gallon can and running it.I wouldn't run and engine off a garden hose with muffs at high rpm's. You just can't get enough water flow to properly cool the engine. Also, there is no load on the engine and it will run away on you.

I agree with RBU. If the engine runs fine under 3500 and will run fine for a while above 3500. It sounds like you are just not getting enough fuel to the engine.

If it's been sitting 2 years, ya gots gummy carbs and jets...they need to be disassembled cleaned and new kits installed........ Your running lean possibly at higher RPMS, watch it! Gonna fry the engine if ya keep it up! Check the rest of the fuel hoses, system and filters if any, for gummy stuff and crud. Sometimes the fuel pump gets crud in it too and needs a kit. You might wanna check the thermostat too.........or jus' replace it as a matter of fact...2 years sitting Hmmmmmm..........Didja check the lower oil and seals too?
