I don't know your experience with carbed outboards but my initial guess is that you need to change you starting procedures and/or adjust your idle rpm's. How are you starting it? Are you holding in the choke while you are cranking? Are you disengaging the gearing and opening up the throttle any? Once it's in warmed up, and in foreward at idle, are you at the correct idle rpm's?


I have a carbed 225 and it smokes when I start it too.
