Hi, my 200hp mercury runs well but wont stop! <br />I have checked the wiring but it has always got a spark even when the ignition is of. It is blue band and is a black max.
Does the motor die when you pull the kill lanyard? If so, and turning off the ignition key does not kill the motor, then either the ignition switch is bad or has a bad connection at the blk/yel wire. Pulling the kill lanyard or turning off the ignition sends ground to the switch boxes through the blk/yel wire. A break in this circuit would prevent stopping motor.
You gotta check the blk/ylw wires at the merc. switch. That's what actually kills the engine for you. If the wires are loose or the merc switch is bad, it will never stop.
