Identify Mercury 50hp outboard

I have my first outboard and I have hit a brick wall as far as Iding this beast. The model or serial number is (6010983) That is th eonly number visible. If i need to look in anothe rpalce please tell me where.

That's a 1982 4 cyl. Very good (reliable) reputation.<br /><br />Post some more info and someone will be along to help. Info such as - what have you done to try and fix it so far, what are the specific symptoms etc etc........<br /><br />You can also check out the FAQ forum, there are some good maintenance tips to be had there.<br /><br />And welcome to iboats!!!!!!!!

Those 4 cyl. 50s were a fine idleing engine, start with a compression test, then ck all cyl for spark if that isn't the problem the fuel system should be cleaned
