Re: Mercury 85 hp fuel problem

Your low speeds could be a little lean and if choking won't help ck to see if the choke shutters are sealing alright

Re: Mercury 85 hp fuel problem

tgriff

Did you buy the motor with this problem or is it a new problem in your old motor? Does it do the same thing when you first start up cold or only after running for 15 minutes?
I have a 1976 Merc 1150 that had identical symptoms when I first got it. It turned out I didn't know the "secret Mercury starting procedure". There should be several old posts on it.
It may be a simplistic suggestion, but this aggravated me for days until I stumbled onto it on Iboats.

Re: Mercury 85 hp fuel problem

Most of my low speed/idle problems are solved by a good grade of fuel and if necessary and additive to boost the fuel. I'd certainly try and see if it makes a difference,if you aren't already using top shelf stuff........
