I have not ran my mercury 40 (4hp 2 stroke) in about 3 years it ran fine last time it was used. could you all please tell me the best way to get ready to run it again (changing oil, plugs and such) also could you tell me where to find the serial # so I can maybe find its age . I do know thAT IT IS NOT YOUNGER THAN 1980

i would remove and clean out the carb, change gear oil, and make some french toast.<br /><br /><br />actually i dould just pour gas in it and see what happens! <br /><br /> :p

LOL COULD YOU TELL ME WHERE THE DRAIN PLUGS ARE FOR THE GEAR OIL

You should find the serial number between the thumbscrews of the transom mount. I'd suggest you replace the water pump impeller and change the LU oil, then fire it up before you do the carb, but that's just me.
