Hi I'm having a problem with my 30HP Mariner 2 stroke (2004) model. Just recently, when trying to accelerate the motor just labours then bang it will get up and go and then it labours again. It also seems to kick when idling in neutral at any revs. It does not seem to be fuel, I've also checked all leads and wires for looseness. I think it may be a solenoid or coil perhaps? Can any one help?

Easy check first, make sure you have spark on all cylinders when this problem arises. Make sure all ignition coils are properly grounded.

Second, work your way from your fuel tank to where it connects to the motor. Check to make sure the tank is vented, the primer bulb is good, and the fuel line is in good general condition.

Next, to test fuel pump, pump the primer bulb when it 'labours' and if this saves the motor from falling on its face you need to rebuild the fuel pump.

Don't know if you have a carb, efi, or optimax model. If carb, I would clean the carb(s) and reassemble with new gaskets.

Hey Andy, you are a champion. I went out and purchased a couple of new spark plugs and just for good measure I drained the fuel bowl on the carburettor. It worked a treat. The motor is running perfectly now, cheers mate you have been a great help and a money saver, I think it was a foul plug more than anything, so once again thanks. Tight lines.
