idle adjustment

I just had my 1998 merc 150 power head rebuilt. Boat ran great for two outings. The next time out when I tried to shift to neutral I was unable to. I shut engine off and restarted it. The engine idle reved over 3000.I backed the idle off. After running again the same thing happened. Upon inspection I found the screw that holds the clip from the throttle cable to the carb linkage had came loose. I screwed it back in and adjusted the idle again. I ran the boat for about an hour and the problem went away. Does anyone have any opinions on this problem?

Re: idle adjustment

Could have been left loose after rebuild. Keep an eye on it and if need be a lockwasher or little thread locker may be needed. Make sure threads are not stripped.
