recently aquired a 1992 Johnson 20hp outboard. The previous owner always used 93 octane gas -- should I continue with that, or can I go down to 87?

87 octane mixed with TCW-3 rated outboard oil at a ratio of 50:1 (one pint to six gallons).

Premium fuel is NOT needed in an outboard. Actually, it can be detrimental. It burns cooler and leaves more deposits, an outboards nemesis.

should I be concerned? The motor seems to be in mint condition... used for 10 seasons, probably has around 300 hours on it
