I have been reading lots of posts on the pros and cons of removing the VRO on OMC motors. I did not find any posts on how reliable the Yamaha Oil Injection System is and wondered if anyone has experience with the system.I purchased the boat two seasons ago from a close friend that has not put more than 50 hours on the motor in 10 years. I drained and refilled all fluids including the oil in the tank and have used the boat for approx. 200 hours with no problems at all. I've winterized it each year and on start up at the beginning of the season I mark and keep an eye on the oil level until I'm sure all is working.The engine is now 14 years old and things are sure to start going wrong soon! If the oil system fails, does the Yamaha have adequate safety alarms and engine shutdown systems to protect the power head?If I do remove the oil injection, what's involved and what fuel/oil mix should I be using.Thanks in advancePeter

I have never seen any serious problems with yamaha oil injection systems. I have seen them dump too much oil, but never not enough. The oil pump on these engines works off of a gear on the crankshaft. If you want you can take it to a dealer and have them check the flow rate on the pump and make sure it is ok.

THE YAMAHA OIL INJECTION SYSTEM IS A GOOD ONE AND HAS HAD VERY FEW PROBLEMS THAT I AM AWARE OF. ALONG WITH MOST OF ALL THE REST OF THE OIL INJECTION SYSTEMS THAT ARE OUT THERE. CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF EVEN THE VRO BY OMC IS A GOOD SYSTEM . I CAN TELL YOU FOR SURE THAT I HAVE SEEN OIL INJECTION SYSTEMS BLAMED FOR WAY MORE BLOWN POWER HEADS THEN I COULD EVER COUNT ,AND THAT IN MOST CASES IT WAS DUE TO A TECHNICIAN THAT DID NOT KNOW HOW TO PROPERLY DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE SO THEY BLAMED IT ON THE OIL INJECTION SIMPLY BECAUSE THEY DID NOT KNOW ANY BETTER . AS FAR AS THE MIXTURE IT SHOULD BE 50:1.

Thanks CaptWhite & CaptBlack,I think I will just leave well alone and continue to monitor the oil level at the start of the season.Peter
