Hi. I have a 1970 Merc 75 Can anyone tell me how to install the spring, I see the 2 holes each end of the springs go into but cannot tell which ends go to what hole and the configuration of the spring. Thanks Greg

Is this on a 7.5hp model 75 or a 75hp? If it's a 7.5 I can go check.
Eric

I can't tell from looking at it. I'll take a parts motor apart to see what you're looking at tomorrow.
Eric

Sorry Greg, too busy right now. I'm going on a fishing trip until Sunday, so I'll do it then or maybe someone can help you out before then.
Eric

Re: 1970 merc 75 neutral speed limiter

Sorry, I got back and completely forgot about this until now. Ok, I took apart the neutral limiter on a parts motor and put it back together. It's quite simple and quick if you know where everything goes, so I included pictures. This is a 1973 motor, so if yours is different tell me and I'll go find a 1970.
First put the spring in the hole on the limiter like this

Then put the other part of the spring that sticks down in the little hole beside this bolt hole.

Then stick the bolt through the hole in the arm, twist the arm around so it's in the below position and tighten the bolt in the hole so it's done up but not tight.

Sorry for the messy motor, it's been sitting in a pile in the back yard for quite a while.
Eric
