Identify my 115 Merc 6cyl

I know this subject has been beaten to death, but, I need some help. I have what I believe is a 1976 Mercury 115 I6. I do not have a serial number plate on it. I have pages of service paperwork left by the previous owner with detailed part no's from stator's to switch box's to water jackets (the paperwork also states 'no plate'). I gathered up a dozen or so of these part no's and xref'd them against the catalog on mercruiserparts.com I was able to narrow my serial no. down to 5314656 thru 5600966... I assume the engine was built in the US. Can anyone identify what years these serial no's my have been. <br />Is my logic in identifing this engine sound???<br />thanks for your help!!!<br /><br />Eric

Mercury's early 115HP was a model 1150..serial # starting at 2836019 in 1970 thru serial # 4855153 in 1978..115HP in 1979 was a model 115..starting at serial # 5168574 and ending in 1987 with serial # B110064..They had the same serial # in 80/81..# 5600967...Mercury almost always stamps the serial # on the block..usually on the crankcase halves edge...I think the last belt driven trigger was used in 1978...I know the last ones were all CD ignition...which has a coil per cylinder...Al...

Like inlineal said it should be stamped on the block. Does this thing have a distributor? Tim

It doesn't have a distributer. I know the boat is a 1975, I am not sure of the engine. As I mentioned before, I cross-referenced a over a dozen part numbers I had from prior repairs with the parts manual and all indications say it is a 5314656 thru 5600966 s/n. Then it a 1979 or above.(78 was last year with distributor) Can you find any numbers on block?

That cowling looks like maybe an early 80's model and it's definitely an ADI motor. Congrats!

It's an 82 model. 1980 had silver "Mercury"

If that is the right cover its an 1982. I would do a decarb, tune up with a Link & Sync and change impeller. Then enjoy. Good Luck with it, Tim
