1978 Merc 150HP compression results

The below are the results of a compression test ran on a motor that I'm looking to buy. Is this good or something I should stay away from. <br /><br />The motor is a V-6, not an in-line 6 and here is the compression test: #1 - 115; #2 - 115; #3 - 115; #4 - 125; #5 - 122; and #6 - 118. <br /><br />Thanks. <br /><br />bz

I would believe the 118 and 115 are low and you might want to go ahead open her up or take a peak and see if there is scoring.

Not bad, you want to see them all withing 10% of each other...

Those are not bad numbers, Allot of shops have a camera with a small eye that they can put through the spark plug hole and see the cyl. walls. Removes any doubt of scoring......

Those are OK numbers for that motor.

If you buy it, One of the first things I would do is try some ring free. (It may help bring your #s up a little.) Good Luck, Tim

Agreed - a de-carboning (like Mercury Power Tune) is clearly indicated here as a 1st try.<br /><br />-W
