engine bogging down

I have a 1978 70hp Merc. I just purchased and took it out for the first time this past week and it ran fine for about 3 hours then it started bogging down like it was starving for gas. Revs high in idle but once in gear and hit the throttle it starts to bog down. Any suggestions

As a temperory thing you can remove the brass retainer plug from the float bowl to ck or clean the jets with the carbs on the engine, but the proper way is to remove the carbs from the engine and clean them completly
