Not JB but, that Angler has a shaft extension on it - it's set up for a boat with a 20" transom. It would be the better engine for general use though - parts are easy to find and inexpensive, and it's got 20 years of technological improvements on the Sea King. An actual pull-start for example rather than a peice of rope with a knot in the end.

Still, the sea-king would look a lot cooler! :)

I would say that if you need a short shaft engine, keep looking and be patient, Hfeld.

You can probably find a 50s to 70s Johnson or Evinrude with gearshift and a short shaft within your budget.

Good luck. :)
