Installing a tach on a non-USA built Mariner
I have a Japanese built 1981 30hp Mariner (model 30EL, serial 689L405415) on which I want to install a tach. I'm hoping to get and install a teleflex or Faria tach from ebay. I know that to use a teleflex or Faria tach I need to install a merc/mariner module (part # 17461A2). Does this module connect to the two green wires from the stator and then onto the sender post of the tach? Also what is the setting for the tach? I know the USA 30hp mariners are 12pole but what about the Japanese ones? Also does the wiring require any special type of wire, shielded etc? I know I could just buy a Tiny Tach but I'd prefer not to.
