out of gas or out of oil

On a recent outing, family had the boat out and ran out of gas or oil or both. I have a 2000 model 115 horse Merc. It has an oil injection tank on the front side of the motor which is visable when you remove the motor housing. The engine quit suddenly and thought to be out of gas. At the same time, there was only perhaps 1 cup of oil left in the oil tank. When both were refilled, the engine did not start up again, although it cranks well. Any ideas on why it will not start up again. Is there a low oil sensor that will prevent start up? If so, what should be done to check it out and get it going again? With only 1 cup of oil left in the tank there should have been a low oil alarm going off. A LOUD beep-beep-beep-beep. Something is not working right. Don't think there is a low oil cut out that kills the engine.<br /><br />When the engine quit, were you in fact out of gas ? Check for spark to the plugs and gas to the carbs. Emergency kill switch ON or OFF ?

There was no alarm going off. Think they were out of gas as it took several squeezes of the primer bulb to reprime fuel line. Tell me more about the emergency shutoff. Thanks for the reply.

The emergency cutoff or kill switch, is the thing that you hook your lanyard to to shut down the engine if you should fall off or down & away from the controls. It is a switch right under the ignition switch, in the off position the engine will not start. Good Luck, Joe P.S. you should know about this thing
