Re: 90 Horse sportjet dogs when put in gear
There is no 'in gear' on a 90 sport jet. The motor is always turning the jet pump. The Neutral position of the Morse control is simply an interlock that allows you to start the engine with the throttle plates open and the timing advanced. Neutral is the reverse bucket position which forces about half the jet aft and about half the jet forward. That said...

I hope you aren't reving this thing high on dry land, even with some dealer flush kit. The kits don't bring enough water into the impeller, and if it isn't loaded up it can be tough on the motor.

When you are in the water, and you load the pump up with water, it is a function of horse power developed to overcome the resistance in the jet pump. The impeller if it turns at all isn't too tight. If it were obstructed, it would turn freely, and make a lot of racket because it can't load itself up with water because of the turbulance caused by the obstruction or cracked blade, or some such thing.

My guess is compression or timing robbing you of the horsepower you need when the jet pump is loaded up. Check your compression first and then your timing.

There are several little 2x2 square things with wires coming and going. Be more specific.

When you run the engine for a period of time and the buzzer goes off, are you on land, running excessive RPMs? Don't exceed 2000 RPM on land with a good dealer flush adaptor. If you are in the water and you are getting the buzzer, you aren't getting enough water into your engine. Flush it well, and then check for obstructions.

good luck,
fp
