Fisrt off, I'd like to say hi to everyone as I have recently discovered this site. I am amazed with the wealth of information here.<br />I have a 1997 4HP mariner two-stroke. After the last use the motor has been stuck in the fully tilted up position. When I try to disengage it, I am able to tilt it up a little and the tilt lever moves freely but the motor will not drop. Any advise would be really appreciated.

I'm not sure how the tilt mechanism on your motor works, but I'd try spraying it with WD40 first and see if that loosens it up.

When you tilt the engine up the tilt stopper assy is supposed to release and swing away from the transom about a 1/2 inch. Due to age or damage it's not releasing. Just reach in, right above the thrust pin(the rod that keeps the engine in various trim settings) and pull the assy back while you are tilting the engine up. The tilt stopper assy looks like a U on steroids.
