First off, great forum! Seems like this subject has been hashed around alot, but I seem to have a few different quirks and would like to know where to start.

1993 V6 Merc 150

1. Things were running fine all summer, until the first salmon showed up (correlation??)

2. Leaving harbor good WOT rpm's (~5100). Trolled on kicker, back to try hole shot to go uptide, and dropped to ~2200 rpm's at WOT.

3. Still have high rpm's on use of throttle control in neutral, also in reverse gear.

4. Plugs appear wet (a little oily), replaced with spec'd plugs, no difference.

What next?

Thanks,

Wishin' I was fishin'

A lot of this depends on the general maintenance of the engine. When was the last time it was gone through as far as fuel filters, fuel pump, etc. It could be anything from dropping a few cyliders, (switch boxes, stator, or a coil pack) to a blocked filter. Is it running what you would say is smooth when you are having the problem or missing some?

It has been about a year for filters, never serviced the fuel pump (I bought it 3 years ago). Engine starts easily (although a bit smoky), runs very smooth in idle, a bit rough at WOT, but hard to tell exactly how rough as the boat is almost on plane so is plowing alot of water.
