Altenator/low voltage on 1995 40 Mariner

Everthing was fine and then all at once the engine would not turn over. Battery was new last year. I jumped it and it started and ran well. The voltage meter on the dash was low, 8-9 volts.<br /><br />Do these engines have an altenator?<br /><br />Could it be the Voltage regulator?<br /><br />I have also read about the solenoids/rectifiers?<br /><br />Any help would be appreciated.<br /><br />John

If thats a 4cyl. it has a alt. ck the stator winding with a OHM meter there should be continuity yellow wire to yellow wire, none to grd if the winding is good you probable have a bad rectifier
