While running about 4500 RPM on Sat 7/16/05 the engine suddenly decreased the RPM's to about 2000. I checked the Temp gauge and had normal reading.
I then shifted to neutral and engine turned off. Unable to start since unless I dis-engage the throttle control and move it front to give it gas. While the the throtle is dis-engaged I am able to accelerate the engine pass 2000 RPMs without a problem. As soon as I engage the Throtle I must quickly shift into Forward gear and accelerate to over 1000 RPMs or the engine will turn off, however I can't go pass 2000 RPMs.

Other possible related factors:
-I noticed some black oily liquid coming out of the lower unit and had never seen that before until after Sat's incident.
-Oil injection was disconnected an oil is being mixed manually 50:1 for over 4 months without any problems

I used a spark gap board and all 3 cylinders on the starboard side didn't have spark. The problem was a bad switch box. Replacing it fixed the problem.
The local Mercury shop explained that this is very common in this engines and not to be surprised if the other switch box goes bad soon.
