Just trying to figure out a good place to start on this one. I have a 1999 125hp Mercury has one annoying problem. It will stall when cruising for a while (5 minutes) at idle / low speeds. It will not restart after it dies for at least a 5 to 10 minute resting period, after which it will usually fire up as if nothing happened. The engine runs strong at higher speeds and has a nice idle. There are no other noticeable problems with this motor.

Also I see that impeller replacement is a recommended as a preventative measure. Is this necessary in freshwater, if so how often?

I have minimal marine engine experience, but I have pretty strong automotive experience and electrical background. I have not had the opportunity to check for spark when the motor is dead in the water, but that is the direction I am headed in. All comments are welcome!

I thought this might also be useful information.
Serial# 0G882661
ELPTO
1999 125HP Mercury

Anybody have any theories on why this would stall? Trigger? Stator? CDI Pack? Bad Karma?

Check your compression lately? Mine went out this weekend zero compression on #2.

Re: 1999 125hp Mercury - Low speed stall

I just got around to checking compression. The testor measured 95 on all 4 cylinders. I also noticed when performing the compression test the starter drive gear bounces up and down repeatedly when the starter is cranking. Sometimes it will only turn the flywheel for a second and disengages. Any ideas why this would not stay engaged?
