Hi I just purchased this motor and it runs like a charm until i shut it off and then try to restart. The motor cranks fine but does not even sputter after it is warmed up. I think this is an electrical problem. The motor has the "thunderbolt ignition" are there some checks I can do before I take it to a boat motor mechanic. I have heard two differnt views on the Stator; one person told me that it should start even if the stator is going, that it will run off the battery; a second person told me that the cause sounds like it is the stator??

Depends on the year. If the stator has only 2 wires it only charges the battery and is not part of the ignition circuit. More wires and the stator is indeed in play.

First, try adjusting your warm start procedure. If you shut it off and try to start it back up the very next second - does it run?

-W
