Found what was supposed to be a 62 Glastron Fireflite with a 35 Johnson Seahorse. The boat turned out to be 59 Fireflite. I just thought it was cute and would be a great winter project. My husband thinks I've lost my last remaining marbles. Anyway the numbers I found on the motor are 1537444.
Can someone tell me what year the motor is?
It still runs great, and I have gotten skiers up with the old girl.

I'm afraid not, that sounds like a serial number which isn't much use.

Try looking at the transom/swivel bracket where the engine attaches to the boat. Somewhere on it (usually on the top or side) there should be a nameplate with a model number and serial number listed. If the plate is missing, take the hood off the engine and have a look on the engine block itself near the spark plug end for a silver disc. It's convex, and about the size of a quarter. It may also have the model number stamped into it, but sometimes it just has the serial number.

Tell us what you find. Sounds like a nice project!
And welcome to Iboats.

The little silver disc has a stamp in the metal of a horse with wing or fin? on its back and on the disc below the horse are the #s 1537444. The only other #s I've found were on the fuel bowl.
Is there a sight on the web where I might find it?
I'm not giving up on you guys yet. I love these chat topics. What a great sight I've found.

upon further sluething I've come up with some #s from the engine block they are 304768. I hope this helps. Could this be a 68?

That's the right one. You say 'fuel bowl'? Do you mean a glass one? If that's the case, that could only mean it's a '57, '58 or '59 since that's the only years before the mid-'70s that they made a 35hp. There's a number of important changes between '57 and '58 so you'll want the precise year.
The name plate ought to be between the two transom clamps, just up above on the flat above the 'tilt lock' switch. The ones around here you usually need to trowel a quarter-inch of grime off of to read them.

Anyway, you can ID it visually (click on these links):
1959
'58 (1) '58 (2)
1957

Since the style changed so drastically it should be easy to pick out.

EDIT: That sounds like a casting number. The engine will be covered in them and they're not very useful. We're looking for RD, RDE, RDS-nn looking 'numbers'.

Paul you were right on the money. The plate was where you said it would be. The #'s are RDE19. I checked the sights,(drum roll) 1957 is the year.
The plate also saidJohnson Motors, Waukegan, Illinois U.S.A. Thanks a million Paul.
