We have a 2001 25 hp Mercury outboard with about 10 hours on it. We were crossing the lake and we lost forward. The boat will still go in reverse. Any ideas where I can start looking for the possible cause of this problem.

Re: 25hp Mercury no forward
Welcome to iboats. Check your gearlube. Could be a broken shift cable if it's a remote steering model. Maybe a spun prop hub. Shift adjustment is another possibility.

I'm not picking on you, just trying to show others why most posts move slow,or get tedious or no response. And I also am guilty of not giving enough info at times. All the info we have is Mercury 2001 25 HP 10 hours. And that's good for a 1st post. What can we do with that except general suggestions ?Mustanglarry,I am guessing your motor is a tiller model. If this is true, you may have a faulty shaft in your tiller handle, and it lets the twist grip slip. There is a factory recall on this.See your dealer or call Mercury. As I said,I'm not on your case, but on most posters.Besides,if you don't have a tiller motor, look how wrong I am.DHP
