  • 1973 mercury 850 85 horse s# 3497272 no fire to plugs fire going in none coming out as far as we know. we put on new distributor cap, plug wires, coil and coil wire and still nothing. we were told it has a new power pack but not sure. thanks for your help..sara<br />

First ck the red post on the 4 post side of the switch box you should have 12 volts, then ck at the white post, then you turn the key on you should also have 12 volts there, it is tell you that the switch, engine plug in and wiring harness are ok. It will give some anwsers to get started with if you have voltage let us know and we can tell you how to test the switch box--Bob

everything checks out except the white post has nothing when key is on.

Without 12 volt on the white post the engine won't run, do a basic ck with a jumper from red post to the white post and if you have spark, the problem is in the harness/ ck the engine plug first sometimes you have to clean or spread the connecter next ck power to the switch and then the switch/ let us know--Bob

Can i do this ck ups on my Mercuty Marine 500 it is a 50 hp 4 cyl. ????
