I have a 2003 Mercury 9.9 hp Bigfoot four stroke which is stuck in reverse. It has about 5-6 hours on it, all at slow rpm as it is an auxiliary for my sailboat. It was working perfectly when things went sour as I coasted towards my boat slip. I gently put it into reverse for braking and it has never come out of reverse. With the shift lever in neutral, it starts but it is already in reverse. When shifted to forward it stays in reverse. When shifted back to neutral, it remains idling in reverse. When the shift lever is moved back for reverse the motor is already running in reverse and so on. With the cowling off I can see the internal shift levers moving appropriately with my remote cables when the shift lever is moved. Is there any on the boat fix for this problem?
