The 2003 Opti's have been very good. I have not seen any significant issues... Perhaps other techs have input contrary...

60-70GPH @ high cruise...likely 50-54MPH with good water conditions....3800-4000RPM, best fuel economy.

This is a guess not knowing where the boat will cruise best, but around 3-4mpg shouldn't be far off.
EDIT: 6 to 7 mpg is gonna be closer, figuring 20gph @ cruise of 35-3700, and about 35MPH.

get the flow scan I'm also paranoid about gas. There are to many variables offshore wind current weight,and adult beverages.what's the old saying 1/3 there a 1/3 back 1/3 reserve and 1 seatow membership.

walleyehed: Shouldn't 35mph at 20 gph come out to be 1.75 mpg? That things gonna be thirsty
(wot) but carry a heck of a load in fine fashion.

I can't imagine 675 hp getting 6-7 mpg. That is wayyy out of my league.

JKW1939, you are correct....1.75 mpg would be the correct figure, or close to it....I was figuring 3-times that???????? Brain fart I guess.
Safe range at 90% fuel capacity is around 472 miles....(at optimum cruise)

Re: buying boat w/ triple 225 2003 optimax's

.33 gal/min. 1.75 mpg....this works out within 1 quart of fuel when compared to a rude 225 (double), on a comparable boat. With 3 engines, the prop pitch will be higher per engine, so the speed will be "slightly" higher at the same RPM, but not much.
1.75-2.0gpm would be 105-120 gph....I know that's not right.

With this boat set up and running good he should cruise at about 50gph. Calm seas would put him about 35mph cruising speed. He would be out of gas in 6 hours, or 210miles. This has been my experience with this sort of craft. Maybe my math is off in mpg, but this is about the norm. Chief
gpm=gallons per mile

When you start giving fuel flow in gallons per minute used, thats getting kind of scary. But like they say : If you gotta ask you probably can't afford it.

Jim

It is kinda scary JKW, tho I was referring to gallons per mile. At WOT cruise there would not be much diference between gpmile, and gpminute. This is a situation where you definately want to have your setup optimal. With a flo-scan you keep your range maximized...Chief :)

You got it Chief. Hard to imagine running an outboard at WOT and it using around 75GPH - takes deep pockets. It would definitely pay to have fuel flow monitoring on all engines to maximize range.
