Remove lower end

I would like to remove the lower end on a 1993 25 HP, Mariner, tiller. Need to replace water pump. Have removed the 4 bolts, but cannot locate the release for the shifting rod.

It's a pin and flange with a small bolt holding it under the carb

I don't take them off, you can get to the bolt from the port side--Bob

I can see a flange with a swing lock on it, looks like would swing up and pull out. But the starter is in the way. Remove the Starter??

Removed the starter, was able to get to the release, lower end is on the bench.<br />Thank You, Thank You<br />Eddy O

Once I got the lower end off and the water pump I noticed the output shaft on the lower end is bent. Can a shade tree guy, tear one of these apart??
