I was just cleaning the gasket surface on the bottom of my '72 1400 powerhead. The surface that joins the two square exhaust holes looks kind of corroded and obviously it isn't going to seal very well. Is that going to be a problem? I can't imagine it needs to seal here at all...but I really have no idea. :)

Yes, but only a small one between the two exhaust holes. Is that a problem?

No, it's not.

3 out of 5 blocks even have a small crack between the two exhaust ports on the bottom , it's a known weak spot in the casting.

A little red goop at the target area will curtail the two exhaust ports ability to share gasses, but they both meet up in the leg anyway. So long as there's no exhaust leak to the *outside* it's OK.

-W
