40hp merc has no spark!!!!!

need info on ign.(stator& Trigger). 2001 40hp eng.has no spark. ser#ot218734, model#1041412yn,low hours on moter,why am I having this problem? Any info on checking ign. system will be very helpful. THANKS

Check the kill switch and stop switch. Disconnect them from the switchbox and check for spark. If you now have spark, the problem is in the 'stop' system. If not, it's in the trigger, stator, switchbox or coils.<br /><br />That's the place I'd start first.<br /><br />Chris...............
