I have a 1987 mariner 9.9, The only way it will start when engine is cold is using starter fluid.
when it starts it runs great. When engine is warm it starts with 1 pull.I dont know what to look for,it has new plugs and fresh gas.
Thanks in advance!

Re: mariner 9.9 starting problem

Welcome to iboats.

Just so you know, Ether washes the oil off the metal surfaces inside. Not good for a 2-stroke. Are you pulling out the primer knob? Try pulling it a few times to pump a bit more fuel. If it isn't pumping, then there could be a carb problem.
