over heat puting it in to reverse

i have a 1999 mariner 60hp and the overheat alarm comes on when i go to put it in reverse and go slow but when i go fast it gose off what can this be

It could be that the impeller is going bad and does not have enough vacume to overcome the reverse water flow on the lower unit

check your thermostats, they could be sticking.<br /><br /> mistylady
