Steering wheel won't turn? PLEASE HELP

When I winterized my 17' Whaler with a 100hp mariner i noticed the steering wheel was locked up..... I covered the boat and figured I would deal with it in the spring..... whatto do?<br />dale

What part of the steering is "locked up"?<br />Chances that it's all siezed is not likely.<br /><br />Seperate the helm from the cable, and seperate the engine from the cable. By then you should know what part is the problem.

I just finished working on my steering cable. Disconnect the cable from the motor and see if your motor turns side to side freely, if so carry on. Remove cable from back of steering wheel and see if wheel turns freely. Reason i say it this way is because I found my problem was the cable. Now if it is cable you will have to replace or see if you can get some kind of grease into cable. i first used WD40

THANKS SO MUCH, WHEN I WINTERIZED THE BOAT, THE STEERING WHHEL WILL NOT BUDGE......<br /><br />MY BOAT IS IN STORAGE SO I'LL CHECK IT OUT IN THE SPRING....
