Default Mercury 4hp Motor, Smoking a Bit

I recently bought a Little Jon boat that came with a 4hp merc. the owner said he never ran it so he didnt know if it ran.i put gas a new plug and 3 pulls it ran, it didnt cool, so i changed the impeller and ran it again. it runs really pretty good, but it smokes more than i think it should. could this be just from lack of use? should i just run the piss out of it on a Lake and see if it "cleans" up? or is there an adjustment on the carb that would help. i pulled the plug after running it and it was fine.any advice would help.

Some of the singles are a little smokey and if it's not been run for a while it could have sticky rings to add to the smoke run it and see if it gets better

Probably kind of obvious to clever people but have you got the mixture of fuel right? Too much oil could be the problem
