Hey, i have put a new water pump and housing/seals in the lower unit and still no water squirting... checked all the tubes and they are clear, dunno about the T-Valve in the back of the engine, havent taken it out yet, aluminum into steel isnt east to take off without damaging something. How far deep does the engine need to be submerged in the water for it to suck the water in? the small holes on the bottom or above the seal for the lower unit and the upper part of the motor? let me know, thanks

Re: water problem

If you were using muffs, then it wouldn't be an issue. They're cheap, under $10. A fresh pump should prime-up as long as all the intake holes are covered with water, but it runs dry at first and that's not good. It will be self-primed if the gearcase is submerged about an inch above where the gearcase meets the midsection. I always go for the latter option so the pump doesn't run dry, even for a few seconds. The first option could burn out the pump quickly if it doesn't prime.

The intake holes on the bottom of the engine were covered and nothing was happening, and i was just curioius if it had to be submerged to where the lower unit meets the other part of the engine. I was told that once and didnt know if it was true or not. I was told that if it wasnt all the way submerged that it will not work at all because of the way it is made, older motor, but i dont know thats why i was asking. thank you, any other suggestions?<br />thanks
