I have a 1996 Mariner 150HP outboard that I am having the constant alarm come on when I run between 3400 to 4200 RPM. When I put the engine into neutral (without turning the engine off) after about 30 seconds or less the alarm goes off.

If I run full throttle it does not come on. My boat is a Smokercraft deck boat and when I am running between 3400 to 4200 RPM, I am mostly running with the boat's bow slightly up at an angle.

The engine pees okay but sometimes I get some steam coming out with the water. Does this sound like a thermostat, impeller problem or both? Thanks.
