I have a 1996 Mariner 150HP outboard that I am having the constant alarm come on when I run between 3400 to 4200 RPM. When I put the engine into neutral (without turning the engine off) after about 30 seconds or less the alarm goes off.If I run full throttle it does not come on. My boat is a Smokercraft deck boat and when I am running between 3400 to 4200 RPM, I am mostly running with the boat's bow slightly up at an angle.The engine pees okay but sometimes I get some steam coming out with the water. Does this sound like a thermostat, impeller problem or both? Thanks.skiking

When was the last time you changed the water pump impeller? Does the boat stay in the water all the time? Sometimes the intake ports on the lower unit will get too much growth of algea and stuff to allow enough water into the waterpump.

I am having the same problem (regardless of rpm) with one of my twin '96 150's. I was wondering if you had any closure to your episode. It's driving me crazy!!!
