Default 7.5 Mercury tell tale pees exhaust then water

When I start motor up works fine, then after running a little bit the tell tale whole shoots exhaust out and goes back and fourth between water and exhaust. I replaced pump and seals and check compression. Compression was 125 psi. Any body have any ideals.

Look at your tellhose. If it comes from your thermostat housing, the flow will be erratic. It will only flow when the stat opens, and stop when it closes.DHP

Are you sure that it is exhaust? Or is it steam?
