I have a manual start mercury 30 hp 1999. I need to buy the right prop and everybody that sells them ask's me what are the rpm's full throttle with the current prop. How do i find out what are the rpm if it does not have a tach. i have a 1-x15 prop.I want more speed and my boat is a lowe 17 fully rigged.if you have a phone # post it here and i'll call.

Without knowing how fast your motor is turning at full throttle, I'm afraid we can't be of much help. You need to get close to the maximum recommended RPMs in order to get the horsepower out of any outboard. I have the feeling that your 15 is WAY too steep as it is. You might actually get more speed with a lower pitch prop. That would allow the motor to develop more horsepower because the motor could wind-out more.

I'll put it this way. At 5500 RPMs you get 30Hp. At 4500 RPMs you get closer to 20Hp. Too much pitch and it's like driving your car thru town in overdrive.
