Searched on this specific problem, and found similar, but not exact.

It worked fine on the water two weeks ago, lifted the motor and tarped and stored it. Now the lift motor runs both directions but won't raise the motor. You can hear fluid running through the pump while trying to lift it.

I can't fill it properly while its on the boat. I get little oil in the fill plug, but maybe its enough.

Checked prices, and this thing is close to $700. Has anyone replaced seals in the pump/valve/cylinder? Some parts are no longer available. Going to attempt rebuild myself.

Three of four repair shops said they would just replace it outright. One said he would rebuild it.

Nick

Hi, i had the exact same problem with mine, which i think is similar (1993 Merc. 60 h.p, simgle ram).
Why can't you fill it properly? The fill plug is usually easily accesible (angled on the stern side).

On mine, i solve it by changing the 3 o-rings of the relief valve (they have cracks). Cost:less than 1$.
Hope it could help.

I'm having the same problem. Did the manual relief valve come out easily for you? Mine unscrews to a point where it just seems to keep turing without grabbing to come out the rest of the way. Do the 0 Rings fit onto the relief valve and then the unit just screws back in?
