electrical problem

i have a 1976 85 hp merc. i just purchased the engine after the local shop put a new cdi box on it. i went to install it on my boat and when i went to hook up the battery i got a small arc. i dont think this is correct but dont know where to look for a amp draw

Although this is not the correct answer to your problem it is still a good idea.<br /><br />Put a on/off switch right after the +positive battery cable. My battery always lasts longer. When I'm done using the boat I turn the switch off.
