Default New boat warranty information

Is the dealer/manufacturer required by law to give you a copy of the warranty which outlines all the terms of the warranty, etc. with the purcahse of a new boat?I'm currently having issues with a certain manufacturer who I will not name as of yet over various gelcoat cracks that are reappearing after having been repaired as well as cracks in new locations. While they (the manufacturer)feel it is the responsibility of the company they contracted to do the work last time to redo the previous repairs (which I somewhat agree with, but am opposed to for reasons stated below), they are unwilling to fix other cracks, all of which stem from fittings. I'm concerned there may be a structural issue with this boat, and or a major quality control problem. If anyone has had to deal with this unfortunate experience please feel free to leave advice if you wish.ThanksDan

Obtaining a copy of the warranty would seem to me to be a responsibility of the buyer to obtain from the seller. And if the seller would not provide one the buyer should not complete the purchase transaction. Now as to the cracks - are they surface (often called spider cracks) or structural? Spider cracks or crazing is common and more cosmetic than structural. My advice is to carefully document your dealings with the dealer and take plenty of pictures. You may need them should you need to take the dealer to court.

How can you determine if the cracks are structural? (I am also wondering how the manufacturer determined they were not structural just from pictures) I have a single crack line that runs from the dash to the horn, one from the gas tank filler that dead ends and a few originating from some snaps. The cracks keep reoccuring in the same area of the starboard gunwale. More recently, a crack developed in the floor originating at a fuel tank access point. The boat has snap out carpeting in case your wondering how I know there is a crack in the floor. This crack has to be more than just a gel coat issue becuase the gap looks larger than the cracks on the gunwale. The manufacturer does not want to cover it. I'm afraid that I wouldn't even be able to sell the boat with the crack. I haven't had any abnormally large passengers and no one has jumped into the boat. The lake the boat is used on is about 2 miles long and a mile wide, the largest chop this boat sees is crossing another boats wake for the most part.Dan

Just for all our info...what boat do you own? There may be others who have had this issue with that boat and they may have had better, or worse, results.
