When I trim it up it sags back down over a period of minutes. This doesn't seem normal! Does it need to be bled, or is there some other problem?

The motor was rebuilt this spring, before I bought it...

Re: Power Trim "sag," 1990 Mercury 60hp ELPT

Hi,

check this for the trim that doesn't "hold" the motor: on mine (1993 Merc 60hp - single ram), i fix it by changing the 3 o-rings of the relief valve. Cost:less than 1$. For this you'll need to remove it completely (just 2 pins with crosspins). After changing the o-rings, refill it with ATF (automotive transmission fluid) and reinstall the unit on the bracket.
It's called a self-bleedind system, so you'll just need to cycle the motor two or three time up and down, lock it in the up position and unscrew the fill plug, the air trapped inside will go out.

Hope it could help.
