It sounds like you're set-up perfectly.

Sounds good to me. My max is 5800 on my 125 horse Merc, but I can tickle 6000 if I want to. I leave mine the way it is because I usually cruise at 3600-3800 rpms, and I like having the little bit of "gearing" for addition loads.

sounds normal here too. i also can play with throttle and tap the 6350 rpm range, at 75 mph. dont complain i've seen lots of motors not turning over 4,000 rpm!

With just me in the boat and at Sea Level, I can top out at 6000. I crruise at between 3800 and 4200. The motor sound the best in that range, get's quieter and doesn't feel like it's working as hard.

Hope this helps.

Craig

Thanks for the help. How far could I go before doing damage to my motor. Anything over 6000 seems a little scary for me.

I wouldn't run it over 5800 for any length of time. Some of the racers on this site will disagree, but they don't mind having to tear one apart to rebuild it. I would follow the recommendations in your manual for RPM's.

Re: 5800 rpm's seems a little high

The proper thing to say is 5800....

But I've heard of guys running 6200 without ever having a problem... However, I'm not advising that...

I can reach 5900 rpms with a 25 pitch prop at WOT (trimmed out)... And I'm happy with that set-up... I may try a 26 pitch, but need to find an affordable prop first...
