75HP Mercury LU reinstall, now not shifting

Bought 2nd hand LU to swap my pooched one, for 1987 75HP Mercury bigfoot A729226. Reinstalled and turned flywheel to line up driveshaft splines, everything bolted up great but no shifting. Shift F-N-R and prop always in neutral. Seems upper and lower shift shafts are not engaging. Or ??? Any ideas?

Check the shift shaft at the engine. Does it work when you work the control?

Then remove the lower unit... Does it shift when you work the shift shaft by hand?

Answer these two questions, and we can go from there...

Remove the LU. Put the remote in neutral. Then turn the lower shift shaft spline (Sticking out of LU) until that's in neutral. Re-fit LU.
