40hp Mariner, hard start, rough idle,planes off then dies

1986 40hp Mariner, 2 cylinder. Motor ran fine the beginning of the summer. Set in dry dock for about 3 weeks, then suddenly had trouble getting it started. Once it started, it idled rough and try to die. When I take off, the boat will get up to plane then die. Now this sequence of events repeats.

Well lets see here...

Could be losing a cylinder (spark)

Could be sucking air (cracked fuel line)

Could be that the fuel tank is not vented (self explanatory)

Could be dirty carbs (fuel starvation)

Could be faulty fuel pump (hole in diaphram)

Check these things first, then let us know.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was not expecting to get a reply so soon. Have checked the line for cracks and the tank is vented properly. Also have checked for cylinder (spark). I will let you know what I find with the carbs and fuel pump. I should get to it in 2 or 3 weeks....boats in storage and working OT.
