Mercury 800 (80hp) Wiring Diagram

I've just obtained a 1972(i think) Mercury 800 (80hp) Outboard. Serial Number: 3051739

It is in generally very good condition, however the wiring etc. is very corroded, and will therefore obviously need re-wing.

Please could anyone send me a diagram, online manual or let me know of where i could get them.

The person i obtained it from's husband passed away, and the motor has been sitting in the garage for a while.

Could anyone also let me know as to what i should look out for to get the motor running again. Apparently it was last serviced a year ago, and was in good running order.

I am from South Africa, so these things are not so readily available around here.

Hey Nate What about a 1976 Merc 500 serial 4360047 wiring diagram just for kicks and giggles. I have an old one and maybe will part out if some parts are still fireing

Since when did we stop allowing mastertech diagrams on this site? We have been using those diagrams since this board started. Literally thousands of times. I thought that was why mastertech put them on his site available to everyone.

i was wondering what charges the battery and could i just hook something to charge the battery

If that motor is a 1972, it will have a distributor ignition. On those motors, the stator under the flywheel produces AC voltage which is passed thru the rectifier and turned into DC voltage to charge the battery. The stator has no part in running the ign.
