Greetings. Can anyone tell me how the solonoid on the top of the carb is supposed to work for a primer ??? there is a brass piece that the plunger touches but i am not sure of how this works the primer to start the motor? 9.9 mercury with electric start about 1990 dont have exact year. can anyone help me with this?? there was a solonoid then it was removed and i havent used this until now.<br /><br />Allan.<br /><br />the motor will start if you prime it but not with the electric feature.

Allen, The solenoid has a plunger on it that blocks off a passage on the carb.This allows extra fuel to be drawn into the engine intake,to make it start.
