mercruiser tilt trim cylinders

hi am new to the whole boat thing, i just bought a 18ft 1974 mercruiser 165hp, straight 6,<br />the tilt and trim went up and down fine, i then pressed trailer tilt and went up and then wouldn't go back down, the pump motor runs in both directions, the resevoir is full, <br />i then disconnected both cylinders (i believe are called rams on boats) the port side cylinder operates beautifully, the starboard side cylinder does not move unless pressure is aplied and then with difficulty,<br />would i be right in assuming that some garbage was in one of the lines or possibly inside the cylinder?<br />i would assume my next step would be to disassemble that cylinder and rebuild it does this sound like the right thing?<br />by trade i am a motorcycle mechanic and would appreciate any help.<br />thanks, george

I know if the fluid is not milky looking, there is no bypass from the rams (water getting in) not sure but you may be able to disconnect the line and blow some air through to be sure but the cylinder you might have to ask around a bit, both of mine are leaking and need rebuilt.
